My theater instructor Raghav Bhotika called me up one day and
asked whether i would be interested in editing his first short film, i accepted even though i was undergoing a open heart surgery.
Since i have a lot of experience with editing films (Birthday party’s for 4 year old kids, Second Wedding of Mr. Bhaskaran),
i took a different approach for this film ( i took Majestic bus, instead of going to Shivaji Nagar.)
The film is about the jitters of Arranged marriage (no, nobody dies or murders anyone in this film), a light hearted comedy with great acting and even better hair styles.
Please watch this film and tell us what you think, Since the director of the film Raghav Bhotika put his heart and soul (in monthly installments) into this film , while i had panpuri from Richmond circle.
NOTE: If you are not Indian, the very idea of Arranged marriage will make you shave your head and listen to Abba songs, but the video will give you glimpse of Indian Culture.
Today, i had the privelage to see Slumdog Millionaire. I went with no expectations ( i tried really hard, since
every where i went i saw posters of “10 Oscar Nominations, 4 Golden Globe Awards, and friends asking “you saw Slumdog” a hundred times already..)
As the film began, i didn’t even have time to get ready for the film, immediately from the first frame, i was hooked…That’s because Slumdog Millionaire
is a movie that just pulls you into the movie with its fast paced storyline.
The film is about a young boy from the slums of Mumbai that becomes an overnight millionaire when he participates in the popular show “Who wants to be a millionaire”
but is arrested in the suspicion of fraud, since how can a slumdog know all the answers?
During the interrogation, the lead character Jamal narrates his amazing life story explaining how he knows each answer…
The first actor that you see is Dev Patel (as older Jamal), whos acting is very straightforward and true to the character. Irfan khan as the tough
commissioner does an honorary job.
When Jamal starts narrating his story, you get to see the first glimpse of life in the slums of mumbai.
Its amazing how the director shows the gullies and corners of this huge utopia through a simple chase sequence.
Because of the amazing cinematography, you never see the slum being shown as disgusting place. instead you feel
like you are traveling through an extremely sophisticated city of mazes.
The subtle references to Hindu-Muslim rivalry, India’s rising problem of poverty and prostitution, corruption and other aspects that we as Indians got
used to , has been shown on screen like i have never seen before.
I always knew that India has a lot of beggars, prostitutes etc..but i was never used to an Indian director showing them to me, as remarkably real as Danny Boyle did.
One of the few movies, that i was waiting impatiently in the interval since i wanted to know how we were going to reach the end of the movie, anyone could easily guess
how this movie is going to end, what we are more interested as an audience is to hear his story.
All the actors in this movie are brilliant, especially the child actors. So i don’t need to mention it, but what i found difficult to digest is the English used in the movie
and the accents of the actors..They sounded quiet fake and out of place.
We also never know how, Jamal actually got a chance to participate in the show, but all these minor details are an personal opinion…
I need to make a special mention to Anil Kapoor, who played the host of Who wants to be a millionaire. In the beginning i didn’t like him so much, but that’s exactly what
his role demands, a big celebrity that wants attention and money over anything else.. (now i know why Shah Rukh Khan rejected the role when it was first offered to him)
A.R. Rahman’s background score is good to hear, but honestly, i don’t think he was irreplaceable… I have heard much better scores done by him in Indian Films..
Overall, a fantastic movie experience, i was fully entertained.
Many of us have dreamed of acting in a film or on stage, but we obviously thought that we weren’t good enough..So how can you get better? Join a theater workshop of course. I had joined this workshop thinking that i could get a feel of theater, but after the workshop, my acting, script writing and basic knowledge of the art of acting had improved..
This isn’t just a workshop that makes you act, the method of teaching here is – games. Playing games with the other students drastically improves our acting skills as well as give us a sense of competition..
I would recommend joining these classes since it is at a very convenient time and isn’t expensive.
The workshop lasts for one month,
it consists of 8 classes (two classes every weekend)
Costs 1000.
Held at M.S. Ramiah College,Bangalore. at 3:30 pm

The classes start on 24th of January, so please hurry!!
People always tell me that they have never seen a good video on youtube,
but you will definitely come across gems like these, a short film called “Marry Me“, if you look in the right places..
In short, This movie is about a girl who is in love with a boy who wouldnt care less if she got hit by a truck..What is brilliant about this movie is the wonderful acting, and the photography…take a few minutes, watch it and tell me what you thought..
I was sitting in our college classroom completly bored, when i over heard my classmates talking about going to the Christ fest, i immediately messaged my friend from Christ and she said that the fest goes on for three days (16th,17th and 18th).
So i decided that our usually boring Saturday class should be bunked for something more interesting… The guys and me came early to college (we tried to get attendance and bunk, but the damn class teacher could smell are bunking odor) , so we left and took a bus to Christ.
On reaching there, i realized that all my friends from christ were not there (how convienient) , so we took the matter into our own hands. We ran away to our houses crying…then came back.
Hows the fest? Amazing…why? The food is good? Nope, its pretty ordinary and overpriced, The stalls were fun? Nope, not exactly.. The performances were fun to watch? ehh..they were okay…So why was the trip amazing?
Well, to put it in simple words…The girls. I think about (this is after precise mathematically observations and calculations) 4 million hot chicks present in that campus. We guys had a blast talking to these chicks (most of them were in groups Girls in groups=Fun)..
I have to say, i have met the most interesting and friendly girls in Christ campus, i mean if you want to have stimulating conversations ,come here…
This was the first time i went to Christ College, i really like the Campus… Its like my college , but about 700 times bigger..
I definetly recommened going to the In Bloom Fest in Christ, watch this space for more..
ps: i didn’t take any pics this time (its just that we were having so much fun), sorry..Ill make sure i do in the future
