Some people love their bikes, some worship them and some make a video as a tribute to its greatness. I just was itching to make an ad on my bike, and i had finished making the music for it 3 months back. Somehow it kept getting postponed cause my friends weren’t available or cause i was busy or cause i didn’t have a camera. Then i had that moment.
The “SCREW IT MAN! I am shooting it right now” moment.
So i took a normal Digital Camera that had a decent video shooting mode, and went out and just shot random shots of traffic. The only reference of my shooting was the constant soundtrack (which i so love) playing through my mind as i recorded it. (Here is the download link to the music without the narration Fazer ad ).
Lot of people on the road got freaked out but i continued shooting anyway. I started putting it together and it took some shape. So on the second night, at 12 in the midnight , i go out on my bike and shoot some more because i was determined to finish this video on my own more than anything else and to basically show that ANYONE can make a video like this. All you need is something that can shoot video and little knowledge of editing.
Anyway, i have made a detailed “Making of” Video describing how each scene was done. Check it out.
Hope you like the ad Cheerios (no , not the cereal.)
Every one has their own taste’s and opinions. We all like different things, some are very open about it (like girls) while some are not (like guys). Most of the times, we choose not to speak about our “likes” or “dislikes” since it might “hurt” or “offend” the person in front of us or maybe we just want to be nice and not refuse.
Well, then comes “fictional Likes and Dislikes”. Things you ACTUALLY like but dislike it because its “un cool” to like it. For example, I love the colour pink. Well honestly i love it when cute girls where pink, if i had to buy a car, i necessarily wont go for it but you get it , i like the colour pink because its soothing and cute. Suppose one of my female friends ask me “ So Kenneth you like pink? “ I would be like “WHAT pINK? i hate pink its soo girlly”. But if my girlfriend dressed up with a cute pink top and tiny shorts, i would be all over her. anyway lets not get distracted.
The above crap is basically written to “diplomatically” ease into the topic of hating movies.
I am fed up of people hating a movie just because it is immensely popular (or liking it just because its popular.) And guess why they do that? To get attention from people. I am not saying that because you hate “Aladdin” means that you actually like it but tell people you hate it so you can get some attention… What i am saying, is you just hate a movie because you want be “cool” by being the FEW people who hate the movie.
A best example would be The Dark Knight. Some people just hate it. Why? Here is the most popular answer :
“Its over rated”.
Okay, so you hate the movie because a lot of people think its really good and you don’t?
“Not exactly, Christian Bale’s voice for Batman was stupid”
Of course it was, and so is him running around in his underpants but that doesn’t mean the whole movie is bad.
“well…eh..the Tim Burton Batman was MUCH better”
Okay..Tim Burton’s Batman is exactly what it is…Tim Burton’s. This is the Dark Knight, which was made to satisfy the more technologically advanced times.
My next favourite is Avatar. Some people are going over the top and calling it just a pile of “cgi sh*t”.
Why don’t you like Avatar?
“Come on, without the fancy graphics and the 3D effects, there’s no story to it”
Oh k, A very integral part of that film was the fantasy world Cameron created to help the story. The best movies, ex: Titanic is basically about the ship sinking and two lovers who were separated for ever. Simple story right? But why is it so popular? The visuals of people dying while a huge ship tore itself apart in the icy cold waters is what remains in the our minds. And those WERE visuals.
“Eh, Without the 3d, its shit”
Your right about that, without the 3D the movie wouldn’t be as engaging. But are you aware that every animated film that has been released in the past 3 years (along with some live action films) have been released in 3d. Why didn’t they do so well? Because Avatar almost perfected its 3D technique.
“well, its over rated”
Again we come back to the same popular “brain dead” answer.
Its over rated ,that’s why i hate it. (hey that rhymes..)
Finally the climax of this post, the movie 3 Idiots. I don’t know where to even start about this film. Some people just hate it. why?
No, its not because they think its “over rated”…its because “Its not realistic”.
Are you freaking kidding me. I still can’t believe people use that line to explain why they hate a movie. Is there a SINGLE movie every made which is realistic?
You know why? Because its boring, its not exciting, its not engaging and yes, real life is not cinematic. Saving Private Ryan was praised for its “realistic” portrayal of World War II, they interviewed a WWII veteran and he said “the war sequences in the film don’t even come close to the bloodshed and agony of being in a war”.
Films are not realistic. Please understand this. 3 Idiots isn’t realistic, but it courageously did something else : It used the film making medium well.
The Film making medium basically is “ HEy, its the film world, you can do ANYTHING you want as long people get entertained but don’t get removed from the story…doesn’t necessarily have to be realistic”.
Amir Khan is 44 years old, i know that. You can’t safely carry a paralysed man on a scooter, i know that. You cant deliver a baby and magically bring it to life by saying “AlL izz well”, i know that.
But i believed it while watching it, because in that world, IN THE FILM, that was happening . It was real. FOR THEM, the characters, the story..and i was part of that story for 3 hours in that theatre and i believed it.
Of course i can choose not to believe it and say its rubbish. Then why the hell am i going to watch a movie? I want to enjoy a world of cinema which allows me to escape my boring-engineering-college-life and experience a fun-college-where-rancho-rules!
If you cant let go of that reality. Your wasting your money.
Have you seen kids watching a movie? They literally cry if something happens to Mickey mouse or Tarzan..and laugh out and cheer as Mowgli gets his revenge.
That’s how you enjoy a film.
ps: Honestly, there are movies that suck royally, and those are the ones which you try your best to get involved in but the story just doesn’t let you to like Mangal Pandey.
AS you know its fest season! And Today i attended the Christ University Fest InBloom 2010, well honestly we didn’t have much
fun as last year. But something very nice happened today….
(Of course i have to give a build up to what happened) So Jaison tells me about a short film competition in Jyoti Nivas COllege.
I honestly wasn’t that pumped bout it but he made sure i participated. So, i participated (ya Divya, you get credit too!).
In addition to the Short film competition there was a Ad Campaign competition. I thought it meant just making an ad, so i choose to
do a campaign for the New Beetle Car (the other topic was voting.) So i submitted that also.
And, i honestly didn’t expect to win anything since Christ College had already submitted 9 short films, i guess there were 15 enteries totally.
Then, i found out for the Ad Campaign i need to have a three member team and explain the campaign using ppt’s and spreadsheets, basically i lost
all hope.
But then Divya insisted i come to Jyoti to attened the competition segment (the fest is called Akshyana 2010). Meanwhile i was in Christ trying
to make sense why the fest sucked so much…anywho Arjun, Akshay P. and me left for Jyoti. The entry fees of 100 bucks immediately put them off and
they left back to christ (well tat was my suggestion, they didn’t abandon me).
Anyway, the screening starts…and the first comp was Ad Campaign. I choose to go second (i mean there were only two of us competing…and i was allowed
to campaign alone since there was only one team). The first team lacked preparation as they came to know bout the event very late. Finally, my turn came.
Well if you know me, i absolutely have no hesitation when it comes to going on stage and making a fool out of myself by talking crap and making jokes only
i understand…and somehow that works all the time
I am not boasting, but it was pretty obvious i would win the Ad Campaign. But what i honestly was worried bout was the Short Film Competition. They
immediately screened the 2nd Prize winner and i am not acting like those “actors during the oscars who fake praise their competition”. I dont know
the name of the film, but it was produced by Christ University and bout a girl finding out bout her father. I thought the story was brilliant. Throughout
the whole movie i was like (okay, i dont think i am gonna win, cause i dont have a fantastic story to tell.)
Well, as i said its fest season and only good things happen during fest season and i freaking won the Short film competition too. Honestly, the best
thing (even better than winning that shiny crystal trophy) was the reaction from the audience.
I participated with two short films: Study Holidays and What would you do?4. And Study Holidays won first place. The way the crowd laughed, commented
and reacted to every scene actually made me like my movie even more (come on, study holidays isnt my best work). At the end, when i heard the applause
for the film i literally became motionless and thought “God…i love you man” and just smiled my ass off. And the icing on the cake, after the movie was
screened i had to go and collect my trophy
Damn, Once in a while it feels good to be appreciated for your work. But more than winning, i am really gratefull to the JNC crowd for liking it
I hope you guys have a Cultural Fest cause i am into Western Acoustic too SO pls, dont charge me an entry fee this time.
Peace.

Well, the title is called “Finally” cause tats what went through my mind when i read the sms sent by Aditya at 9pm last time , while i was sitting in the train coming back from Kerala.
My very good friend, okay, he’s like my “brother-from-another-mother” friend was concerned bout what i will do in the future. Well, cant blame him, Film making isn’t tat promising for a career choice. I am not expecting to get married to Genelia Desouza and somehow get into the industry (well, tat isn’t such a bad idea)..okay, enough of this crap..well the point is, The guys i am working with aka MC PRODUCTIONS (Bharath Mc, Aditya G. Arvind K. and me) participated in the Passion For Cinema’s One Minute Short Film Competition, and ALL of our movies were selected (Whats for Lunch?, Crazy Prakash, The Shower Scene and Mind F%$#ed) and were screened in Mumbai.
The Judges were (hold your undies tight):
Anurag Kashyap, (Dev D, Black Friday, Gulaal)
Dibakar Banerjee (oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Khosla ka Ghosla)
Hansal Mehta (woodstock villa)
Sriram Raghavan (Johnny Gaddar, Ek Hasina Thi)
and a lot more directors..
& What’s for Lunch? won SECOND PLACE!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!
and Crazy Prakash (which i acted in) got very good reviews for titles, editing and acting.
Acutally, ALL are movies were liked, but come on, we had to win
(extra info to show you how big this is) :
There were Two Hundred and fourteen entries, which were narrowed down to 48 films. out of 48 films we freaking won,…just saying.
The movie What’s for lunch is directed by Aditya G. , Editing (sound and video) and lot more stuff was done by Bharath Mc, Acting was done by Arvind Bhai and i did the Visual Effects (the Point of view shots of the crab..watch the movie to understand).
Crazy Prakash is directed, edited, shot (basically everything) by Bharath Mc and i acted in it. The first few lines are “Hey prakash, Arun passed away” (the audio isnt tat audible).
Also, the NEw KennyMedia has just completed ONE YEAR! (yay!!….everyone’s silent), but kennymedia.com the site has completed TWO YEARS!! (the older website ran for a year before the visual change). Just want to say thanks a lot to everyone, i mean this wouldn’t have been possible without my mom, my dad..i want to thank god…i mean, i am so sorry i didnt prepare for this…snob…snifff..
And about my Kerala trip, it was freaking hectic. Well, nothing exciting happened other than enjoying my home state and meeting my relatives, i guess now its time for me to go get a shave and fix up my hair and start making films BABY! Peace OUT!
ps: If your wondering what the second prize is, Aditya G. gets to be the Assistant director to any of the judges (Anurag Kashyap etc) for his next film….now that’s freakiN AWESOME! There is a slight chance i might go to bombay, so chk this space out for more info!
