Short films+All girls college+Fest Season

January 15, 2010 8 comments
AS you know its fest season! And Today i attended the Christ University Fest InBloom 2010, well honestly we didn’t have much
fun as last year. But something very nice happened today….
(Of course i have to give a build up to what happened) So Jaison tells me about a short film competition in Jyoti Nivas COllege.
I honestly wasn’t that pumped bout it but he made sure i participated. So, i participated (ya Divya, you get credit too!).
In addition to the Short film competition there was a Ad Campaign competition. I thought it meant just making an ad, so i choose to
do a campaign for the New Beetle Car (the other topic was voting.) So i submitted that also.
And, i honestly didn’t expect to win anything since Christ College had already submitted 9 short films, i guess there were 15 enteries totally.
Then, i found out for the Ad Campaign i need to have a three member team and explain the campaign using ppt’s and spreadsheets, basically i lost
all hope.
But then Divya insisted i come to Jyoti to attened the competition segment (the fest is called Akshyana 2010). Meanwhile i was in Christ trying
to make sense why the fest sucked so much…anywho Arjun, Akshay P. and me left for Jyoti. The entry fees of 100 bucks immediately put them off and
they left back to christ (well tat was my suggestion, they didn’t abandon me).
Anyway, the screening starts…and the first comp was Ad Campaign. I choose to go second (i mean there were only two of us competing…and i was allowed
to campaign alone since there was only one team). The first team lacked preparation as they came to know bout the event very late. Finally, my turn came.
Well if you know me, i absolutely have no hesitation when it comes to going on stage and making a fool out of myself by talking crap and making jokes only
i understand…and somehow that works all the time :D
I am not boasting, but it was pretty obvious i would win the Ad Campaign. But what i honestly was worried bout was the Short Film Competition. They
immediately screened the 2nd Prize winner and i am not acting like those “actors during the oscars who fake praise their competition”. I dont know
the name of the film, but it was produced by Christ University and bout a girl finding out bout her father. I thought the story was brilliant. Throughout
the whole movie i was like (okay, i dont think i am gonna win, cause i dont have a fantastic story to tell.)
Well, as i said its fest season and only good things happen during fest season and i freaking won the Short film competition too. Honestly, the best
thing (even better than winning that shiny crystal trophy) was the reaction from the audience.
I participated with two short films: Study Holidays and What would you do?4. And Study Holidays won first place. The way the crowd laughed, commented
and reacted to every scene actually made me like my movie even more (come on, study holidays isnt my best work). At the end, when i heard the applause
for the film i literally became motionless and thought “God…i love you man” and just smiled my ass off. And the icing on the cake, after the movie was
screened i had to go and collect my trophy :)
Damn, Once in a while it feels good to be appreciated for your work. But more than winning, i am really gratefull to the JNC crowd for liking it :)
I hope you guys have a Cultural Fest cause i am into Western Acoustic too :) SO pls, dont charge me an entry fee this time.
Peace.

Well, the title is called “Finally” cause tats what went through my mind when i read the sms sent by Aditya at 9pm last time , while i was sitting in the train coming back  from Kerala.

My very good friend, okay, he’s like my “brother-from-another-mother” friend was concerned bout what i will do in the future. Well, cant blame him, Film making isn’t tat promising for a career choice. I am not expecting to get married to Genelia Desouza and somehow get into the industry (well, tat isn’t such a bad idea)..okay, enough of this crap..well the point is, The guys i am working with aka MC PRODUCTIONS (Bharath Mc, Aditya G. Arvind K. and me) participated in the Passion For Cinema’s One Minute Short Film Competition, and ALL of our movies were selected (Whats for Lunch?, Crazy Prakash, The Shower Scene and Mind F%$#ed) and were screened in Mumbai.

and a lot more directors..

& What’s for Lunch? won SECOND PLACE!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!

and Crazy Prakash (which i acted in) got very good reviews for titles, editing and acting.

Acutally, ALL are movies were liked, but come on, we had to win ;)

The movie What’s for lunch is directed by Aditya G. , Editing (sound and video) and lot more stuff was done by Bharath Mc, Acting was done by Arvind Bhai and i did the Visual Effects (the Point of view shots of the crab..watch the movie to understand).

Crazy Prakash is directed, edited, shot (basically everything) by Bharath Mc  and i acted in it. The first few lines are “Hey prakash, Arun passed away” (the audio isnt tat audible).

Also, the NEw KennyMedia has just completed ONE YEAR! (yay!!….everyone’s silent), but kennymedia.com the site has completed TWO YEARS!! (the older website ran for a year before the visual change). Just want to say thanks a  lot to everyone, i mean this wouldn’t have been possible without my mom, my dad..i want to thank god…i mean, i am so sorry i didnt prepare for this…snob…snifff..

And about my Kerala trip, it was freaking hectic. Well, nothing exciting happened other than enjoying my home state and meeting my relatives, i guess now its time for me to go get a shave and fix up my hair and start making films BABY! Peace OUT!

ps: If your wondering what the second prize is, Aditya G. gets to be the Assistant director to any of the judges (Anurag Kashyap etc) for his next film….now that’s freakiN AWESOME! There is a slight chance i might go to bombay, so chk this space out for more info!

Legala ‘09 – National Law School Fest

November 23, 2009 No comments yet

Boy, do we have a wrong notion about all law students! Not all of ‘em are geeks and nerds with funny bunny teeth and huge glasses through which their tiny little eyes are seen you know! There are students who are pipin’-hot-to-be-attorneys and some hip n cool n fun!

Then the campus, lushes of greenery all over (tall bamboo trees making houses for 1000s of birds) with red n gray buildings of staff quarters and hostels and departments and the library… OH! MY! GOD! IS! IT! HUMUNGOUS!

This one friend calls another n says, “Dude, where the hell are you?” And the friend goes, “Maccha! The second floor of that red building ra.” The other fella, “Wtf?! thanks man! There are like 20 red buildings in front of me.”

“LeGala ‘09” as they called it, did not have many colleges pouring in coz ‘maybe’ they all thought it was too legal (pun intended).

The campus was filled with posters of the many many events as well as posters cartoons of spongebob, bart simpson, eric cartman , the swat cats, tintin n snowy and calvin n hobbes.

Just a quick tour round the campus and we could see it buzzing with activity. From events face-painting to the very weird throw-a-dripping-wet-sponge-splat!-on-ya-friend’s-face contest, from ‘choreo’ (the dance event where the MCC Indian dance troupe sucked balls!) to ‘dedicate roses and songs to your latest crush’ (which is probably why most Carmelites did not turn up).

The “STRAWBERRY FIELDS” this year had a kick-ass range of music (melodic death metal to psychedelic rock). The famous Bangalore band ‘Inner Sanctum’ had the crowd headbanging, setting the stage for the headlining act Parikrama (the crowd went nuts and people were smoking weed, drifting into a graveyard of their own). They covered classic rock favorites such as Smoke on the Water, Highway to Hell and Black Dog and they had the crowd all high with all that. The Lead singer, “For those all with dirty minds, this is not vodka with Orange juice I am drinking, its water with Glucon-D and it sucks.” Guitarist,” Its Vodka man!” They attained perfection was when they made a political correct remark, “Its 4 days before 26/11 and this song is for that day, but I wish I was not doing it. I wish that fu*$#ng thing never happened”.

ps: Lekha attended Legala’09 and was kind enough to write an article for KennyMedia , if you are interested or visited some KICK ASS fest or event and are dying to write about your experience, you are more than welcome to post it here. My email id is in the About page.

Hamlet- The Clown Prince Directed by Rajat Kapoor

August 7, 2009 1 comment

Finally, i get it. I get theater. The theater workshops, rehearsing for a play and even performing in a play, i never really got the essence of it..but after watching Hamlet in Rangashankara in its new avatar, a brain child of Rajat Kapoor, i understand why theater is known as (quoting Raghav’s words) The Art of Storytelling.

I don’t watch a lot of plays, and this was my first time to Rangashankara too. Honestly, i am too inexperienced and illetrate to even have the courage to attempt to write a review of this..All i can say is that i felt it..i felt the story..The laughs and the tearful moments, man i am getting emo.

I obviously don’t have to even comment on the acting, the costumes, the choreography, the writing or the direction because i can’t imagine it any other way..it was just perfect.

Some moments, during the play, the lead actor Atul Kapoor just looked into my eyes and literally i could feel what he was feeling..now that’s something i one day dream i will be able to with my acting or directing..i have a long way to go.

Theatre Workshop: Try your hand at acting..

Theatre Workshops

Many of  us have dreamed of acting in a film or on stage, but we obviously thought that we weren’t good enough..So how can you get better? Join a theater workshop of course. I had joined this workshop thinking that i could get a feel of theater, but after the workshop, my acting, script writing and basic knowledge of the art of acting had improved..

This isn’t just a workshop that makes you act, the method of teaching here is – games. Playing games with the other students drastically improves our acting skills as well as give us a sense of competition..

I would recommend joining these classes since it is at a very convenient time and isn’t expensive.

The workshop lasts for one month,

it consists of 8 classes (two classes every weekend)

Costs 1000.

Held at M.S. Ramiah College,Bangalore.  at 3:30 pm

For further details contact:

The classes start on 24th of January, so please hurry!!
