Had some free time, so decided to do another Visual Effects clip. This took some effort let me tell you (designing the interface etc..) but it has turned out really good. Tell me what you think.
I wanted to try out this car-hit effect which i found a tutorial for on the net, so decided to shoot it today. But since this had a lot of work involved in it, i thought why not make it more than just a effects test and make it something more meaningful..so i thought i will try making an advertisement. Mind you, this is a funny advertisement and in no way is it supposed to be taken seriously.
Another special thing about this video is that this the first time that my father is in one of my videos. Dad was great fun to work with, he also help shoot some scenes and drove the car. The whole shooting just took 15-20 minutes, i just drew a rough storyboard before the shoot and went ahead with it (usually i take days or weeks to plan a video). Editing took some time as the car-hit effect even though lasts for a few seconds took a lot of time and realized it still looks fake..so what phoey!.
Had great fun shooting it, and i will keep posting more stuff like this! cya.
I just got my hands on Abraham’s handycam, so i just went crazy with shooting random clips and trying out effects.
The first effect you see in the clip is the Anti-Matter explosion. What i did is, i shot the footage in such a way that i had some reference points (like the water tank), so i could track the motion in After Effects, after Tracking the footage, anything i put the scene would “stick” to the scene, as in stay in the same place with respect to what is happening in the video. The explosions are stock footage from the web, the actual bluish anti-matter stuff is just a picture of some NASA picture of a star exploding and distorted it using Turbulent Displace filter in after effects. (Took 20 minutes to make)
The Second effect is the Wolverine Claws effects, What i did was i shoot in such a way that i was always facing side ways to the camera and moved my hand slowly. Next, in after effects, i have to manually track my hand frame by frame. After that, i cut out claws from a wolverine poster i found on the net and parented it to the track so it remained connected to my hand. And then just color corrected it so it would like it was actually in the scene.
The third effect is a set extension, taking a normal alley and making it look more scary and dark. I tracked the footage, and removed elements like the tree and added a building by adding pictures and then parenting them to the track. I also used a color correction techinque to darken and whole footage and give it a bluish tint. And added a slight smoke.
Hope you liked it, i will add more clips like these soon, just testing out effects for revelations!
This is an amazing video about what goes into the making of a larger than life EPIC war sequence, the Visual Effects is done by Magic Arts, for a film called the Ancient Legion, its amazing how they breakdown each scene, showing how they added each element.

Being a Visual Artist, you really need to have a DemoReel to showcase your work. I made this last night, rumaging thorugh all the clips i have made so far and put it into a 2 minute video.
The first clip (under visual effects) is from What would you do 4 and then followed by scenes from What would you do 5. In Compositing i used clips from my visual effects tests (green screen effect) and the trailer of Youth Syndrome (well, to the guys who dont know, it was my first short film which i never released).
Under Video Editing, i put the new opening logo of Waste of time Cinema. And clips i made to check the effects for the scrapped What would you do 6..
I recently thought i will start shooting random clips just to try out effects and post them here for you guys to see and comment..
By the way, What would you do 6 is still in scripting stage, i know in the end the wait will be worth the wait..Right now i have 3 scripts and 2 concepts for W6…Damn.
My practical exams are going on right now (Basically we do exactly what we do every day in class , but now its supposed to be an exam..i know..my college rocks..) Also, by May 20th my holidays will start, planning to shoot a lot of films, hope to stay alive till then to keep you updated!
